"Tube Feeding with Love"
This workshop presented by Marsha
Dunn Klein, MEd, OTR/L challenges the participant
to look from the medical procedural aspects of tube feeding
to the family, mealtime and interaction aspects of tube
feeding. The
purpose of this workshop
is to look at the big picture for tube feeding.
It will challenge the participant to look from the medical
procedural aspects of tube feeding to the family, mealtime
and interaction aspects of tube feeding. Tube feeding
will be presented from the perspective of the child, as
well as the family, for healthy feeding relationships.
Information will be given via lectures, shared discussions,
slides, videotapes and small group activities.

relationship of stages of infant bonding and attachment with oral

gastrointestinal symptoms that influence feeding.

support for families in making tube feeding a "mealtime"
instead of a "procedure".

dietary diversity and homemade blended diets.

readiness factors in transitioning from tube feeding towards oral
feeding.

the use of language and word choice in parent support

the importance of hunger/appetite in transition to oral feeding.

oral cautiousness vs oral aversion.

the "get permission" approach to mealtimes and oral
motor treatment and give examples.

exploratory and calorie reduction appetite challenges.

the sensory channels in the sensory continuum and treatment strategies
for each.

goals and specific treatment activities for tube fed children
and their families.

options for tube feeding parent support.
